This past weekend, the neighbor's cat decided to jump of the railing of the porch (he's trying to run away from the two puppies). So once again, the cat was in freefall for under a second, when the only force acting on him was gravity. Of course, he decided to scare me again by climbing the 5.5 ft high fence and jumping off it without a care in order to chase a few birds. When he was scaling the wood fence, the force from his legs "pushed" up, counteracting the force of gravity, allowing him to climb the wall with apparent ease.

Yesterday, during low tide most of the reef was exposed to the winds and small waves. While low tides often do reveal the areas closest to the shore, this was one of the first times that a great amount of the reef was above water. Tides are controlled by "tidal forces" which is an effect of the pull of gravity. Because of Newton's universal law of gravity, the moon and the sun exert a certain amount of force upon the Earth and the particles of the water. The ocean changes according to the changes in the distance between the two bodies (r).

On New Years Eve, I enjoyed a fairly quiet night (I could actually see the street through the smoke), but we could still hear the larger fireworks echo through the valley. The sound waves emitted from the firework is sent throughout the valley, bouncing off anything and everything. I'm not sure you can see anything in this clip, but the flash from the various explosions always came a bit before the the actual sound, depending how far the actual explosion was from our location (From across the street to the firework shows at various hotels).
